My Story
-2007-
My first purebred dog was a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, which I named Eowyn, after the character from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. She was my first dog at 16yrs old. We've had family dogs before, but she was my first personal dog.
While researching her breed, I came across many other short legged breeds (The Cardigan, The Lancashire Heeler and the Swedish Vallhund). The Vallhund striking me as a absolute superb looking dog.
I was instantly enamored by his primitive, primal look. The sable coat of a wolf (which the corgi does not come in). I knew I had to share my life with one of these ancient dogs someday. Back then, I hadn't a clue where to find one as they are very rare within the states. (They had just become AKC recognized). I heavily researched the breed throughout these years and they were a major point for my artistic inspiration a lot of the time. Even making one of my characters in one of my stories a Swedish Vallhund. I kept my eyes out for any leads of Swedish Vallhunds anywhere. I wasn't on any social media sites at the time.
-2011-
One day, in 2011, I was looking at Petfinder, and came across a Swedish Vallhund looking dog. She was in a high kill shelter in Lancaster, CA. I made a trip out early the next morning to go pick her up. When I got there, she looked similar to a Vallhund, but not quite, which was to be expected as the chances of one winding up in the shelter were slim to none. Either way, I had to have her. She was completely shut down, but I knew she'd come out of herself. (which she did and turned out to be an amazing dog)
When I brought her home, I did some research and came across the Swedish Vallhund Yahoo Groups.
That is where I came in contact with a lot of Swedish Vallhund people. I was then introduced into the world of Vallhunds, thanks to this little rescue, Vallhund look-a-like mutt with one floppy ear, who I named Mischka. She was my bridge to the amazing people I know now in the Vallhund world.
She inspired me to make a Facebook group dedicated to the breed (Swedish Vallhunds in the U.S.) so that I could continue to meet and talk to people and see photos of this breed as their people knew them, not just some random pictures from google. By this time, I've learned as much as I could about the breed, without owning one myself.
-2014-
It was around this time where I met Peta Dowle with Barahwolfe Kennels in New Zealand. We talked and she became one of my dearest friends. With her kind heart, we arranged the import of a stud dog puppy, my first Vallhund.
-2019-
It was a dream come true. It took 5 years of planning, and in 2019, Barahwolfe Rangitiratanga "Jack" came to live with me in the US all the way from New Zealand. A day I will never forget.
-2021-
On July 16th, 2021, was when my sister and I did a cross country trip from Nevada to North Carolina to pick up our 2nd Vallhund, AKC CH Au Reult Sd Nancy Hart of Barahwolfe bred and titled by Dan Campeau at Au Reult/Suddanly Farms. Another day I will never forget.
Seeing not one, but two Vallhunds running around in my life is almost surreal at times.
This breed is my heart breed. I will always and forever share my life and heart with a Swedish Vallhund. I couldn't imagine life without one.
